SCALED applies biomimicry to improve safety from injury and helps improve overall physical health. It is a nature-inspired flexible protective wearable system, intended to replace existing protective equipment which often restricts mobility. The design of the scale at the basis of SCALED is inspired by animal’s protective solutions against predators and environmental challenges. When applied to a human joint, bespoke interlocking scales provide precise motion limitation for protection and to prevent hyperextension, repetitive strain and impact injuries, while allowing a healthy range of motions to support the desired physical activity
