About

Universidad Mayor is a private university in the Chilean capital city of Santiago.

The university was established in 1988, and initially began by offering bachelors degrees in electronic engineering, computer science and industrial engineering. Within 10 years the school had developed to become Chile's first private institution to be able to offer courses in dentistry, veterinary medicine, and agronomy and forest engineering. In 1998 it began its medical residency programme.

Initially, the university was based solely on what is now its main campus in Américo Vespucio, but as the number and range of courses expanded so too has the number of campuses.

Today, Universidad Mayor has 11 campuses in Santiago and one further regional campus in the city of Temuco. Each campus is well resourced and well equipped with laboratories, computer labs, and libraries. The university currently groups all of its academic programmes into seven separate schools: architecture, art and design; agricultural science; dentistry; business and economics; engineering; education and medicine.

The school’s motto is "para espíritus emprendedores", which translates to "for entrepreneurial spirits". The university's vision is to create young entrepreneurs by providing an educational programme that is centred on innovation, ethical behaviour and leadership, and the values of environmental and social responsibility.

The university has more than 300 agreements with universities and institutions in about 50 countries worldwide, including Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Poland, Turkey and the United States. The Office of International Relations at Mayor provides students with the opportunity to take English, French, Chinese and German language courses

Universidad Mayor was the first university in Chile to gain accreditation by the United States MISCHE (Middle States Commission on Higher Education).
