Smart substation design for integrating renewable energy

This innovation introduces a solid-state power substation (SSPS) featuring DC buses, solid-state transformers, and circuit breakers to modernize grid infrastructure. It enables direct integration of renewable energy sources, reduces infrastructure duplication, and enhances control, protection, and efficiency at the substation level. Supporting centralised energy management and grid services, SSPS technology facilitates the transition to carbon-neutral power systems, strengthening climate resilience while reducing reliance on fossil fuels and improving long-term sustainability of the energy grid

    University of Wollongong

    Anand Mandal (MIEEE) received his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from CUET, Bangladesh, in 2012, his M.Eng. in Electrical Power Engineering from Kathmandu University, Nepal, in 2017, and his PhD degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wollongong, Australia, in 2025. Since 2015, he has worked as an electrical engineer at the Nepal Electricity Authority, with expertise in designing, testing, and commissioning high-voltage substations. He has successfully commissioned and provided consultancy services for the design of over five substations exceeding 132 kV, all of which have been operating satisfactorily to date.more
