About
One of the primary issues faced by ASD individuals is the sensory overload imposed by built environmental stimuli such as harsh lighting, loud acoustics, and hard textures. Being unable to relax or feel comfortable can be stressful in any environment, but even more so in an unfamiliar environment such as a hotel. Autism Hotel proposes to integrate the main design principles identified in residential and healthcare facilities for Autism, into hotel infrastructures. By simply integrating soft edges, acoustic materials, subdued colour pallets, and biophilic design principles, the frightening experience can be turned to a calming, friendly, and safe environment for children and their families.

I am an Australian Interior Designer with over 20 years of experience and a diverse portfolio that includes residential, healthcare, commercial and hospitality. My career began in Melbourne Australia. Relocating to Dubai in 2008, I have designed for many renowned Hospitality brands across the Middle East and Australasia Regions, and have developed an extensive understanding of hospitality projects. Through my research and design explorations as a lecturer, student, researcher, and designer, I have established a set of design strategies and responses of how hotels can easily be adapted to cater for those with autism spectrum disorder, and their families. I hope to change the way we design Hotels to be more inclusive for all.
