About

Non-graphical interface between autonomous car and driver

Awair is a personal table that signals the intentions of the artificial intelligence in driverless vehicles. Using six, small-scale robotic motors, Awair provides tactile and visual feedback to the passenger. This information allows the user to perform the kind of tasks automated vehicles allow for, such as working and eating, while remaining vigilant to the unpredictable dangers of the road. The motors sit in two silicone sections on either side of the table. Situated where users would typically rest their arms, they inflate and deflate in distinctive sequences to inform the passenger of the vehicle’s intentions and movements. Awair ensures continued human awareness within the emerging field of autonomous vehicles.
