Dateform is a project that proposes a blueprint for the use a palm dates byproducts to create new materials, products, and solutions. At the basis of Dateform are date seeds, a nutrient-rich byproduct which is widely available in the Emirates and in many other countries. Some of the products that can be developed from date seeds are biodegradable food containers, date seed coffee, natural cosmetics, alternatives to wood, replacements for small plastic components, and a natural textile dye. These products can support new business ventures and help support a circular economy.
Heba Naji is a Saudi student on her third year studying strategic design management and fashion design at Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation. Throughout the past three years she has developed herself to become a detail oriented, passionate, and creative designer that’s aspiring to continuously develop herself and those around her. Being featured on Sama Dubai, and Albayan newspaper allowed her to view the many available opportunities that are arising for designers to showcase their efforts as well as gaining exposure.more
