Plasma Wastewater Purification

About

Advanced plasma treatment for wastewater contaminants

This project addresses the growing issue of harmful contaminants (ECs), in water, such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides, which traditional wastewater treatment systems cannot effectively eliminate. The non-thermal plasma-based treatment system utilises electricity to achieve complete degradation and mineralization of these contaminants, ensuring safe effluent. Operating at a maximum temperature of 50°C, this sustainable approach integrates hydrogen production for electricity, promoting eco-friendly energy use. Such innovations are vital for future smart cities with decentralised wastewater solutions

I am an environmental engineer specializing in the development of advanced treatment systems for the removal of emerging contaminants from wastewater. Currently, I am exploring the use of non-thermal plasma as an advanced oxidation process for wastewater treatment. I am working as a Project Officer on a water and sustainability project at IIT Madras, Chennai, India. I hold a doctorate from IIT Delhi and bachelor's and master's degrees in Biochemical Engineering. My vision is to develop sustainable treatment systems that can be integrated with the circular economy concept, contributing to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals.more
