About
Traditional home-birthing products are cumbersome and impractical, meaning women frequently opt for the more medicalised hospital system. Leya improves the experience of homebirths by empowering mothers to choose labouring positions they find most effective. It can be used during labour, and throughout pregnancy to practice active birthing positions. Remaining active is associated with faster progression of labour and better outcomes for both mother and baby; Leya facilitates multiple positions by supporting the body and alleviating weight off the user’s legs.

University of Limerick
Ihsan is a Product Design graduate from the University of Limerick, Ireland. She has an avid interest in model making, user-centered design, and design research, particularly in relation to women’s health. Throughout her undergraduate degree, Ihsan completed a number of extra-curricular projects that allowed her to develop skills within the field of ‘design for women’s health’. This led her to the completion of her final year design project that centered around facilitating active labouring positions during home births. In the future, Ihsan hopes to implement design research practices into impactful research areas that prioritise user-centered design.
