ROBOcOB

About

Robocob is a project which works with earth as a construction material through impact printing, a method that uses compacted bullets of clay as building blocks. As a result of rapid urbanisation the construction industry now uses nearly 40% of all energy consumed. While earth is an abundant and locally available material, it has negligible embodied energy. Even if carbon is emitted at extraction stage, this is counterbalanced by the fact that earth houses are known for keeping ambient temperature stable, which reduces energy consumption. Robocob leverages this principle to produce a more sustainable building material.
