Safest Way is an AI-driven routing platform that proactively maps safer pedestrian routes by integrating crime data, CCTV coverage, lighting infrastructure, and visual threat indicators. Its core innovation lies in a vision-language model trained to detect features associated with perceived danger in street-level imagery. Designed to support women and vulnerable pedestrians, the system provides a perception-aware alternative to conventional navigation, enhancing public safety and offering new tools for urban planning, law enforcement, and mobility services

Ilya is co-founder and CTO of Safest Way, a London-based, Geovation-backed startup developing a journey planner that helps people navigate cities more safely, day or night. He is also a PhD researcher in Spatial AI at University College London, where his work explores how large language models can reason and be adapted for geospatial data and navigation. Before academia, Ilya spent five years in industry as a full-stack developer and location planner in the US and the UK.
