Soldi

Soldi

About

Soldi is a compact soldering kit that allows users to make and repair their own electronic devices at home. As the maker boom continues to grow, machinery previously used in industrial processes is being adapted for use in the domestic sphere. Soldi sees a soldering machine turned into a piece of stationary, in which the heating station, soldering pen and work plate mimic the form of a pencil holder, pen and paper. A magnetic connector delivers heat to the pen from the heating station, eliminating the need for bulky wires and providing a safe, and neat, work station within the home.

As an interdisciplinary team consists of three designers, we are Kyung-Ryong Lee, Ha-yeon Choi and Young-Woo Park in Graduate School of Creative Design Engineering at UNIST. During the realization of our project, it required convergence of design and engineering knowledge, and we mingled in the whole design process. Ha-yeon particularly contributed to product design and visual aesthetics, and Kyung—Ryong has contributed to product design and technical implementation regarding our project “Soldi”. The overall process of this project has been directed by Young-Woo Park who researches about designing future interactive products.
