About

Harvesting salt from desalination waste

Brine waste from desalination is a major problem affecting wildlife, humans, and the environment

A sustainable intervention consisting of a permeable skin constructed from strings and set on an elevated deck running above the main water channel which is fed directly by the desalination plant. The strings harvest the salt and elongate the distance that the brine travels before reaching the ocean, meaning more salt can be extracted.

I am a recent Architecture graduate of the American University of Sharjah. My project Saltscapes tackles a very important issue I am passionate about. It combines environmental research with architectural design. It is my dream to pursue this idea at a larger scale and to be able to investigate the potential of one of the most abundant substances in the region to become a sustainable building material. more
