The Telemetron

Make music in outer space

The Telemetron is a unique musical instrument that takes advantage of the poetics of zero gravity and opens a new field of musical creativity. The project attempts to expand expression beyond the limits of earth-based instruments and performers. Leveraging sensors, data transmission and capture (for performance after flight), The Telemetron explores a new body language for music. The instrument’s performable chamber contains a series of electronic chimes. The chimes contain gyroscopes that transmit their orientation wirelessly to create musical notes electronically. In the unique zero gravity environment of outer space, there exist conditions different from earth that will impact the culture that is created there. The Telemetron endeavours to inspire artists and designers to consider the unique conditions of space and their impact on aesthetics.
